On the Way Home is a weekly Canadian national podcast produced by Blue Door and the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness.
Formerly known as “Out Of The Blue”, “On the Way Home” invites guests and experts in the field of housing and homelessness to educate and create awareness around some of the gaps and challenges individuals and organizations face across Canada. Your hosts, Michael Braithwaite (BD) and Stefania Seccia (CAEH) openly speak with diverse guests each week, to discuss innovative programs, stories of hope and hardship and new perspectives on ending homelessness in Canada.
On the Way Home was born out of collaboration between Blue Door and The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness. After a successful year with the podcast “Out Of the Blue”, the teams at Blue Door and CAEH wanted to collaborate to bring forth a national podcast that would address the challenges of ending homelessness here on home soil and abroad.
Blue Door, located in York Region, provides safe and supportive emergency housing, and housing services and supports for people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness to attain and retain affordable housing.
With help from generous companies, last year (2020) Blue Door provided:
In 2020, Blue Door released a three-year strategic plan with new priorities to address homelessness. This plan includes the creation of new health and employment programs, as well as York Region’s first supportive housing for 2SLGBTQ+ youth.
CAEH leads a national movement of individuals, organizations, and communities to work together to end homelessness in Canada by helping to provide safe and affordable housing with the support necessary to sustain it.
CAEH believes ending homelessness across Canada is possible and with the support of generous companies, they have been able to make incredible strides in this mission. With several active initiatives, CAEH is working with agencies across Canada to educate, spread awareness, and reduce the number of people experiencing homeless.
Michael Braithwaite is the CEO of Blue Door in York Region, an organization dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness. While he’s been in the social services sector for over 27 years, it’s during the last 10 years he’s found his passion in dedicating his work to making sure every Canadian has a safe and affordable place to call home.
Stefania Seccia joined the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness in 2018 following a ten-year career in journalism with an intention to see the end of homelessness in her lifetime. For the decade spent as a reporter and editor, she explored housing crisis issues concerning the nation’s most vulnerable with a special focus in her hometown Vancouver and the Downtown Eastside. In that time, she researched and wrote ground-breaking stories diving into social justice issues. Above all else, Stefania believes we can solve the homelessness crisis and create a sustainable and just society where everyone has a locking door, warm bed, and roof over their head.
“Our hope with the On The Way Home podcast is that we create a space of hope, awareness and education that will inform and inspire all Canadians to be a part of the solution in ending homelessness.”
